What It Used To Look Like

Thanks to Lyssa Papazian of Putney who is helping us with the Historic Tax credit applications we have this great photo of our new home back in its original heyday when it was Brattleboro Machine Works. Notice those great windows and sturdy beams - it’s a place designed for people to do great work and we can’t wait to carry on the tradition.

Brattleboro Machine Works

Back To The Future

We are only one or two weeks away from revealing the architectural plans for the interior of the new FulcrumArts home. We have been working with architect Stewart Savel of Virtual Habitat based in Chester, Vermont to find an ergonomic and generous distribution of space that incorporates features from the building’s historic manufacturing heyday.

FulcrumArts is going pre-electricity! The tall and abundant windows in the building, which might be taken as a luxury in contemporary structures, were a necessary feature during the 18th century, providing great free task lighting for workers and craftspeople inside. While it can be hard to imagine relying on the sun for light in a day and age when the chief work condition concerns for many people are processor speed and screen size, for creating ceramics and glass pieces we couldn’t ask for a better solution. Letting the sun shine in through those fantastic windows will help us help the environment while providing nature’s own perfect illumination for our work.
